Your Panels Generate More Than You Use. Get Paid For It.
Net metering is a NEPRA-regulated billing arrangement that allows solar system owners to export surplus electricity to the national grid and receive financial credit against their electricity consumption.
Simply put — when your solar panels produce more power than your home or business needs, that excess energy flows into the WAPDA/KESC grid. Your bi-directional meter records this export, and the units are credited to your next electricity bill.
On cloudy days or at night when your panels produce less, you draw from the grid as normal — but your bill is offset by the credits you have earned. The result? Bills close to zero for many SolarPak customers.
- Reduce your electricity bill to near zero
- Earn monthly credits from WAPDA/KESC
- System payback in 3–4 years
- System payback in 3–4 years
- Approved by NEPRA since 2015
- No limit on how long you export
Step-by-Step NEPRA
Net Metering Process
NEPRA has a defined regulatory framework for net metering. SolarPak guides you through every step — and handles most of it on your behalf.
National Electric Power Regulatory Authority
NEPRA is Pakistan's federal electricity regulator, established under the NEPRA Act 1997. In 2015, NEPRA introduced the Net Metering Regulations, allowing consumers to interconnect renewable energy systems with the national grid and receive credit for surplus electricity they export.
The regulations apply to all DISCOs (Distribution Companies) including LESCO, GEPCO, FESCO, MEPCO, IESCO, PESCO, QESCO, HESCO, SEPCO, and K-Electric in Karachi.
Net metering is available for systems from 1kW to 1,000kW (1MW). Residential systems typically range from 5kW–25kW. No upper limit on number of panels as long as total capacity stays within 1MW.
Under NEPRA regulations, exported units are credited at the the same rate as the consumer tariff for residential and small commercial consumers. Industrial consumers may have a separately agreed rate.
Any excess export credits not offset during the year are settled annually by the DISCO as a cash payment or carried forward, depending on your DISCO's policy.
NEPRA requires an anti-islanding inverter (grid-tie) that automatically disconnects during load-shedding — protecting DISCO workers repairing lines. All SolarPak installations are fully compliant.
From DISCO application to bi-directional meter installation follow-up — SolarPak manages the entire NEPRA net metering process for you at no additional charge.
How to Sell Your Surplus Energy Back to WAPDA
Once your bi-directional meter is installed, selling excess electricity back to WAPDA (or your local DISCO) is completely automatic. Here is exactly how the credit and payment system works.

Documents Needed for Net Metering Application
The net metering application requires specific documents to be submitted to your DISCO. SolarPak prepares and organizes all technical documents on your behalf — you only need to provide basic personal and property documents.
Having all documents ready in advance speeds up DISCO approval significantly. Our team guides you on exactly what format each document should be in and how to obtain anything you are missing.
SolarPak Document Assistance
We prepare all technical documents, SLD, and application forms free of charge as part of your installation package.
